Obituary

Glenna Leah VanHoose Shore
(January 18, 1934 - September 21, 2014)

GLENNA LEAH VANHOOSE SHORE, 80, went to her Heavenly birth and to meet her Savior on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through her time of illness. Yet even throughout her own struggle with this battle, she always reached out to others. Even while others were attempting to be a blessing to her, she inevitably was a blessing to them. She possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten. Mother will be sorely missed by countless friends and a loving family. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Glenna faithfully cared for family and friends throughout her life. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman of faith and her family called her blessed. Glenna is now free from pain, heartache, and debilitating illness and resting in the arms of her Heavenly Father, her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. While we miss her now and our grief is nearly unbearable, we know she is far better off. It would be her desire to point friends and family, who do not yet know the Lord, to Him as we celebrate her life. Glenna was born on January 18, 1934 in Radnor, W.Va. Her mother, Nollis Ann Corder preceded her in death on August 19, 1990. The oldest of the family, Glenna had two younger brothers, Jim Corder and Mike Reynolds, who still live with their spouses Susie and Sheila respectively, in Huntington. After graduating from Huntington High School in 1950, she met who would be her lifelong companion, William Locke Shore and they were married on April 26, 1952. Bill and Glenna were proprieters of Paragon printing company and served the Tri-State area from 1969-2004. Glenna leaves countless numbers of friends and family to mourn her passing. She had five children, Margaret Ann Shore (died March 3, 1953), Jennie Leah Shore Watkins and husband, Ronnie, Jacqueline Ann Shore Courts, Paul Sidney Shore and wife, Donna, and Vickers Watts Shore (died May 5, 2013), widow, Sue. Her grandchildren Caleb Lee Watkins (fiance, Morgan Crutchfield), David Christopher Adkins (wife, Jamie), and Sarah Brittany Courts. Glenna had two brothers, Jim Corder and wife Susie, and Michael Reynolds and wife Sheila, and a brother-in-law, George Hansford Shore (Eunice). She also had two nephews, William Hansford Shore and George Scott Shore (died September 20, 2007). Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Waverly Road Baptist Church, 4412 Waverly Road, Huntington, by Pastor Don Scott and Elder Ronnie Watkins. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Reger Funeral Home, 1242 Adams Ave., Huntington, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the church. Pallbearers include: William H. Shore, Mike Reynolds, Caleb Watkins, Ronnie Watkins, Paul Shore, Jim Corder, and David Adkins. Honorary Pallbearers: HHS Class of 1950. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations suggested to Waverly Road Baptist Church.
