Obituary

Lyle Dean McCullough
(June 6, 1925 - January 9, 2015)



Lyle Dean McCullough, eighty-nine years old, journeyed to his heavenly home on January 9, 2015. His faith in God and Jesus Christ, and the love of his family and friends supported Lyle during his extended illness. Lyle was born on June 6, 1925 in Rantoul, Illinois to the late Ruth DeAtley and John McCullough. Lyle was preceded in death by his son, Lyle Dean McCullough, II, his sister, Catherine Monen, and two brothers Jack and Donald McCullough. He is survived by his wife, Marion, two sons, Dennis McCullough (Debbie) and Mark McCullough (Donna) both of Huntington, West Virginia. Married to his wife, Marion, for nearly seventy years, Lyle enjoyed his grandchildren, Lyle Dean McCullough, III of Detroit, Michigan, Tiffany McCullough Carroll, of Huntington, WV and Sean McCullough of Huntington, WV. Three great grandchildren also brightened Lyle’s life. Sterling, Stephen and Sullivan Carroll of Huntington, WV enjoyed spending time with Paw Paw Lyle. A World War II veteran, Lyle proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and continued serving his country in the United States Army Reserves for over thirty years, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. Lyle and his wife enjoyed world traveling. An avid sports fan, Lyle enjoyed volunteering at Marshall University athletic events. For over thirty years, Lyle worked for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Huntington, WV. He was also a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Crescent Lodge #32 AF&AM of Ceredo, as well as a member of the Beni Kedem Shriners of Charleston, WV and the First United Methodist Church. A proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a Kentucky Colonel, Lyle was devoted to God, his country and his family. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Kim Stone. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Tuesday at the Reger Funeral Home.  The American Legion Post 93 of Kenova will conduct graveside military rites.
