Obituary

JOHN C. HICKS JR. departed from his life on July 14, 2016. He was born on August 9, 1942, in Huntington, to J. Chester Sr. and Lina Mae Fannin Hicks, who preceded him in death along with his older brother, Richard Allen. His passing leaves his loving wife, Sandra Rosende Diaz, her children, grandchildren and great grandchidren; his brother, David (Vicki), and their children and grandchildren. John had long lasting friends he kept in touch with, his school buddies by attending most of his high school reunions. Rick and his son, Kenneth Brackens and John were the best of friends. He graduated from USF and was in the service during Vietnam Era and Cuban Crisis. Many happy memories were made while coaching at Hillsborough Community College and Jesuit High School. John was in the window business sales for 46 years and was respected and well known. This job allowed him to meet and work with many people. His motto "A stranger is just a friend that you haven't met yet" which he practiced all his life. He missed being able to attend his monthly Carrollwood coaches breakfast. His family called him "Hicker" and the children "Papo" and "Unkie."His family will miss him dearly. A Celebration of Life will take place at 3 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Elks 313 Lodge in Huntington. A very special thanks to Drs. Pearlman, Wilson, Glaser-Bell and Narasima, their nurses and all the staff at James A. Haley VA Hospital.
