Samuel L. Smith
(July 25, 1927 - November 25, 2013


Samuel L. Smith, 86, of Huntington, passed away November 25, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born July 25, 1927, in Cabell County, a son of the late Asa and Elva Adkins Smith. He was a member of Olive Missionary Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Marines Corp. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Smith and two brothers, Carlos and Bernard Smith. He is survived by his wife, Ilder Hager Curry Smith; one daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Darrell Childers of Harrisburg, N.C.; one son, David Smith of Huntington; step children, Patty Blake, Becky Abbott and John Mark Curry; one sister, Marjorie Smith of Huntington; two grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2013, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor Gordon Rutherford and Pastor Paul Holton. Burial will be in Baylous Cemetery, Salt Rock. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gideon's International. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 139, Milton.
