Alva Bowen Jr.
(October 20, 1926 - October 13, 2015)



Alva Bowen Jr., 88, of Barboursville, WV, passed away October 13, 2015 at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Pastor James Jobe, Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born October 20, 1926, in Cabell County, a son of the late Alva and Goldie Black Bowen. He was a member of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict which he saw five major engagements, and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal with Oak Cluster, five Bronze Stars, and numerous other medals. He was a retired employee from United Fuel Gas Company. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Sharline Hall Bowen; five brothers, Clifford Bowen, Robert Bowen, Carl M. Shepherd, Bill Shepherd, and George Shepherd; and nine sisters, Marie Parkman; Verba Shepherd Ferguson, Maxine Shepherd Rayburn, Nelda Shepherd Morgan, Nila C. Bowen Boster, Joann Bowen Landers, Thelma Bowen, and Irene Rayburn. He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Hinkle (Freddie) of Barboursville and Patricia Wysong (Jimmy) of Hurricane; one son, Pakie Bowen of Barboursville; three grandchildren, Melissa Bowen, Pat (Kristi) Bowen, and Randy (Whitney) Wysong; and eight great-grandchildren, Craig Ross, Kayla Ross, Cameron Ross, Makenna Bowen, Landyn Bowen, Jaycee Bowen, Khloe Wysong, and Kolton Wysong, special friend, Karla Ross and several neighborhood children who grew up around him. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
