Joan Fisher Adkins
(October 12, 1928 - October 3, 2016)



Joan Fisher Adkins, 87, of Huntington, passed away October 3, 2016. She was born October 12, 1928 in Ashton, a daughter of the late Raymond and Willa Wray Fisher. She was Professor-Emeritus (English) at Marshall University, Huntington, a world traveler, accomplished musician, distinguished educator and an inspiration to those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son, Gregory Adkins of Barboursville; daughters, Kimberly Barlett of Parkland, FL and Tana Adkins of Huntington; granddaughter, Kristen Lynn of Apollo Beach, FL; great-grandson, Jordan Huffman, of Apollo Beach, FL; and sisters, Nancy Dawson of Stroudsburg, PA, and Cynthia Fisher of Huntington. Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. In accordance with her wishes, there will be a simple burial in lieu of a funeral service.
