LORITA “RITA” JEAN SIMMS, 87 of Huntington, WV, passed on to be with her loving husband, Ray on Thursday August 23, 2012. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 1:00pm at Beard Mortuary with Pastor Jonathan Dierdorff officiating. Entombment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born January 22, 1925 in Sterling, Kansas, a daughter of the late Joe and Alma Johnson Canning. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Arley Ray Simms, her parents, one sister, Eleanor Stroup, one step daughter, Arlyna Moore, and a great grandson, Alan Leist. She is survived by three children, Danny and Sandee Simms of Hurricane, Trudee Farley of NC, Carol and James “Buck” Leist of Kenova; one brother, John and Barbara Canning of Enid, OK; one sister, Betty Jo Charlton of Lawrence, KS; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; sister in law, Naomi Simms of SC; a special friend Lois Dickson; and a host of family and friends. Rita was a member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church for 66 years, the Beverly Hills Woman’s Club, and the Stardust Dance Club. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00pm Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Beard Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Westmoreland United Methodist Church in her honor.
