Obituary
AVONELLE PAULEY HATHAWAY, 88, of Huntington, went to be with God
after a long battle with cancer on August, 18, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin
Jones Hospice House. She was born in Manila, West Virginia, January 24,
1926, and was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Allen Pauley and
Allie Gillenwater Pauley; sister, Inez Pauley Bowles; and brothers, Bernie
Pauley, Johnnie Pauley Jr. and General Pauley. Survivors include her sister,
Frances Pauley Barr, of Cincinnati, Ohio; special sister-in-law, Pauline
Pauley, of Melbourne, Florida; daughter Beverly Hathaway Brannock (Michael),
of Parkersburg; John Hathaway (Kimberly); and Mark Hathaway. Grandchildren
are Dr. Kristina Brannock, Kathy Brannock (Travis Capehart), Tessa Thomas
(Steven), Ashley Parker and Todd Jordan Hathaway. Great-grandchildren are
James Allen, Kaleigh Spencer, Kaitlin Thomas, Mena Hathaway, and Amaris
Hathaway. Avonelle was a graduate of Chapmanville High School and received a
bachelor’s degree from Concord College in 1946. She was a mother, teacher
and counselor in her career, having retired from the West Virginia
Department of Employment Security in 1988. She was an avid reader and her
hobbies included needlework, crocheting and sewing. Avonelle spent her
entire life in service to family and community and will be deeply missed by
her family and friends. Beard Mortuary in Huntington is in charge of funeral
arrangements. Visitation is August 20, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with
funeral service at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Damon Rhodes officiating. Burial
will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Huntington. In lieu of
flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House,
3100, Staunton Road, Huntington, WV, 25702. The family wishes to thank the
doctors and staffs of HIMG, St. Mary’s Hospital, and the Emogene Dolin Jones
Hospice House, who gave Avonelle such wonderful care during her long
illness.
