MARY ANN SAUNDERS
(May 3, 2017)

MARY ANN SAUNDERS went home to be with the Lord at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. In her last days, she received wonderful care at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be conducted at Guyandotte United Methodist Church, 305 Main St. in Guyandotte, at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017, by the Rev. Mike Chapman and the Rev. Harry F. Moore. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved to travel - especially to Canada and to Walt Disney World in Florida. She was a devoted homemaker who loved to take care of everyone else - especially children! "Moma," as she was affectionately known (because "Grandma" just sounded too old), loved children and loved to take care of any child she could. It filled her with great joy to spend time with the kids - and it filled them with joy, too. Indeed, she was far more precious than rubies - and more than anything, she loved the Lord. Her greatest collection was of sweet little country churches, but she loved most of all the Guyandotte United Methodist Church. Mrs. Saunders, who joined the church in 1958, served in several capacities at various times. A member of the Home Builders' Sunday School class, she served as Sunday School superintendent, communion steward, rummage sale coordinator, president of the United Methodist Women, a member of the Worship and Pastor-Parish committees and as the congregation's representative to the Parish Council. She was born in Guyandotte, a daughter of Harry T. and Della Clagg Moore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin Saunders; one grandson, Briar Gallatin Saunders; two brothers, Richard Moore and Billy and wife Betty Moore; and one sister, Nellie Louise Holley. Survivors include one daughter, Sue Ann Withers and her husband Bob Withers; two sons, Robert Darrell and wife Debbie Saunders and Brian Franklin and wife Kathy Saunders; seven grandchildren, Luke and Brody Saunders, Elizabeth Withers, Julie and husband Brad Armstead, Leah Losh, Courtney Saunders and Taylor Saunders; "Moma's" special friends, Brody and Brandon Lindsey; four great-grandchildren, Katie and Kaleb Losh, Kelci and Braeden Armstead; two brothers, the Rev. Harry F. and wife Donna Moore and Robert Moore; and one sister, Marlene and husband Paul Christian. Pallbearers will include Brad Armstead, Brian Saunders, Brody Saunders, Luke Saunders, Robert D. Saunders and Bob Withers. The family would like to thank her dear sister-in-law, Betty Moore. Of all that "Moma" loved in life - and she loved greatly - "Popa" was the great love of her life, and after seeing Jesus face to face, it was his face she wanted to see next. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Guyandotte United Methodist Church in Mrs. Saunders' name. Visitation will be at the church two hours before the service.
