Linda Carol Rose Bumgarner
(August 25, 1947 - September 12, 2018)



Linda Carol Rose Bumgarner, 71, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at her family home in the Guyandotte neighborhood of Huntington, WV. She is survived by her husband, Darrell Keith Bumgarner Sr. She was preceded in death by her sons, Darrell Keith Bumgarner Jr. and James Phillip “Jimmy” Bumgarner. She was the daughter of Robert and Georgia Rose of Huntington. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, William, Daniel, Joseph, Phillip and Larry. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sisters, Wilma Miller of South Gate, Mich., Janet Righter of Bentonville, Ark.; Carolyn Auxier of Crown City, Ohio; and Myra Adkins of Huntington; as well as her grandson, Josh Bumgarner of Huntington. Linda grew up in Huntington and she attended Huntington East High School. She worked many years at Huntington Dress Manufacturing as a seamstress. She also worked many years in sterile supply at St. Mary’s Hospital where she worked until her retirement. Early in her work life, she worked two years as a seamstress at The People’s Company in Guyandotte which manufactured flak jackets during the Vietnam War era. She also worked a year as a waitress at Jim’s Steak and Spaghetti House in Huntington. Linda leaves behind a wide circle of friends from many backgrounds and from many places who will miss her happy smile, her great sense of fun, and her wicked sense of humor. She enjoyed the company of her many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She enjoyed traveling by motorcycle, both two- and three-wheeled, with her husband, Darrell, on trips throughout the United States, especially to Daytona Beach, Fla., and Sturgis, S.D. Together, they rode more than 400,000 miles to every state in the union except Alaska and Hawaii. She was a very social person and she volunteered her time for Special Olympics, the American Legion Auxiliary and many other charitable causes. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Beard Mortuary. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Huntington.
