Virginia Hatfield Sullivan
(September 2, 1915 - September 30, 2012)



Virginia Hatfield Sullivan, 97, of Huntington, widow of Luther Sullivan, passed away Sunday September 30, 2012, at Rose Terrace Health and Rehabilitation, Culloden, WV. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 AM Thursday October 4, 2012, at Chapman’s Mortuary, with Rev. Caudle Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington. She was born September 2, 1915 in Mingo County, WV, a daughter of the late Leonard and Effie Starr Hatfield. Six siblings also preceded her in death, Herbert, Ann, Adrain, Bertha, Verna, and Emma. Virginia graduated from Burch High School in Delbarton, WV, and got her nurses training at Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as a Registered Nurse with St. Mary’s Hospital. In February of 2009, she was recognized by, the WV Nurses Association, as a pioneer in her field. She volunteered at the American Red Cross and was a former board member for the Carl Johnson clinic in Guyandotte. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and William Spradley and Fern and Norman Allred, all of Huntington; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Carl Donald and Cheryl Sullivan of Huntington, and Chaz Sullivan of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Pearl Price of Findley, OH, and Fern Maynard of Novato, CA; a brother, Leonard Hatfield of Lake Park, FL; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Abby, Amy, Ian, and Whitney; three great grandchildren, Levi, Savannah, and Caden; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 5:30-7:30 PM Wednesday at Chapman’s Mortuary. An Eastern Star service will begin at 7:30 PM Wednesday, conducted by the Huntington Chapter #8 O.E.S., of which she was a 35 year member. As an alternative to flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
