Obituary

Janice Marie Willis
(January 26, 1948 - September 17, 2012)

Janice Marie Willis, 64, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, September 17, 2012, in St. Mary’s Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial will be conducted 10:30 AM Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Huntington, with Father Jim Sobus officiating. She was born January 26, 1948 in Huntington a daughter of Grace Bowman of Barboursville, WV and the late Peter Wasity. Her deceased siblings were Sandra Wasity, Peter Wasity, Vicki Wasity, and Linda Wasity. Jan graduated from St. Joseph High School, and graduated from Marshall University with a degree in accounting. She married her husband, Stephen Evans Willis in 1966, and worked for the Department of Highways and WV Housing Development Fund in Charleston before coming to work at American Benefit Corporation in Huntington from which she retired on a disability in 1993. She was a long time member of Our lady of Fatima Church and was active in the ladies guild through which she volunteered to help conduct Bingo sessions for the patients at Bateman Hospital. She fought a myriad of medical problems most of her life but she never gave in to them and never allowed them to dictate her life. She had a lifelong love of sports, and had played softball and tennis. She loved traveling, camping, hiking, and motorcycling. Jan enjoyed spending time with friends and spending countless hours working in her flower garden. She also enjoyed crocheting in her later years. In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, and their children, Thomas Kevin “T.K.” and Kelley Willis and daughter, Kelsey of Huntington; Tyler Willis of Huntington, and daughters, Airman First Class, Raven Gibson and Sasha Willis; Troy and Kristen Willis, and children, Shea, Reed, Laine, and Vaughn of Rochester, NY; a brother, Joe Kidd and wife, Mary Kidd, of Cincinnati, OH; and her dog, Bailee. The family gives a special thanks to Ally Fannin, who made Jan’s life much more pleasurable the last couple years. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Huntington or to Little Victories Animal Rescue Shelter at P.O. Box 247, Barboursville, WV 25504. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington.
