Carrie A. Lucas Pratt

CARRIE A. LUCAS PRATT, 93, of
Huntington, WV, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin
Jones Hospice House in Huntington. She was born December 6, 1920 in Cabell
County, WV the daughter of the late Alberta and Gilbert Adkins and was
preceded in death by “The love of my life” her husband of 55 years, Calvin
Lucas. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm Sunday, March 30, at
Chapman’s Mortuary, Huntington, by her nephew, Rev. Johnny Bowen. Burial
will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Huntington. “Born and raised on
Beechfork” attended Barboursville High School, worked at the Dress Factory,
General Cigar, and Sylvania Electric (where she was elected Business Agent
for the union) she retired from Fountain Valley Community Hospital of
Fountain Valley, CA. She became a member of the College of Regents of the
Women of the Moose in La Mirada, CA, and before dementia was a seamstress, a
wiz at pies, cakes, dominoes, checkers, and bingo. Beyond measure was her
love for The Lord, family, home, holidays, family gatherings and
homecomings. Bethlehem, Salem, and Eighteenth Street (where she taught
Sunday School) United Baptist Churches were throughout life most dear to her
heart; she and Calvin placed their membership with the Prince of Peace
Church led by the late Pastor John Hockenberry. Preceding her in death were
six sisters, Regina Adkins, Theresa Christopher, Virginia Baker, Lola
Turley, Evelyn Ramey, and Virginia Adkins; four brothers, Alton, Lace,
Austin and Cecil Adkins along with seventeen sister and brothers-in-law.
Carrie is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Norman M. and Donna G.
Lucas of Parkersburg, WV and Pierce M. Lucas of Huntington; one grandson,
Gregory R. Rodriquez of Palm Springs, CA; three granddaughters, Dawn Marie
Lucas of Parkersburg, WV, Kimberly D. Hale (Charles) and Kelli E. Arnold of
Lavalette, WV; two beloved sisters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Enos
Hadley of Harlingen, TX and Patricia and Ervin Bowen of Richmond Hill, GA;
one sister-in-law, Letha Adkins of Lynchburg, VA; eight great-grandchildren;
caregiver and “adopted son”, Otoniel Palacios of Huntington; and a host of
nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors. Visitation will be from 6:00 to
8:00 pm at Chapman’s Mortuary, Saturday, March 29. The family requests
honoring Carrie’s long-standing wish that flower remembrances not be sent
and a donation be made to Hospice of Huntington, P.O. Box 464, Huntington,
WV 25709 in love and gratitude for the services provided to her many family
members and friends over the years.
