Obituary
Lydie Ann Morrison Payne passed away on June 4, 2016 in Raleigh NC. She was born in Huntington on March 22, 1935 and lived there until the love of her first grandchild pulled her to North Carolina. She was a West Virginian through and through and loved sharing her stories of growing up in the same neighborhood where she subsequently raised her own children. Her childhood friends were so precious to her and she loved them all dearly. Lydie opened her home to everyone and especially loved all of the children that passed through over the years. No one came to her house without being both loved and fed. She had a kind and giving heart. She actively volunteered in church and in schools over the years and she took joy in putting a smile on a child's face. Her devotion to her family never wavered. She was the shelter from all of life's storms. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she never missed a ballgame or dance performance and the word no was never spoken in Mawmaw's home. She made their childhood extraordinary and she was so proud of all that they accomplished. Lydie was preceded in death by her sweet mother Anna Louise and her brothers, Velo Jennings "Pete" Morrison and James Lee "Bimmie" Morrison. She is survived by her daughters, Susan D. Payne and Lisa Payne Barbour both of Garner NC, her much loved grandchildren Spencer Barbour and his wife Rose of Royal Oak MI and Kelsey E. Barbour of Garner NC and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be Friday June 10th at 2:00pm at Chapman's Mortuary with Brother Thomas Bexfield officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services from 1:00 to 2:00. Burial will be in Woodmere Memorial Park.
