Obituary
Samuel Alvin Fields, 70, of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017, at his residence. He was born March 16, 1946 in Matewan, WV a son of Mangeline Spencer Fields and the late Charles Thomas Fields. A sister, Debra Fields Lorimer and a brother-in-law, Doug Layne, also preceded him in death. He was a retired truck driver; was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War; and was a member and Elder at Community of Christ in Ironton, OH. In addition to his mother, survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Linda Layne Fields; his children, Melissa Anne(Gerry) Hunt of Myrtle Beach, SC, Samantha Lynn Cannon of Ashland, KY, Lisa Marie (Keith) Senters of Prichard, WV, and Logan Andrew (Becky) Fields of Huntington; grandchildren, Nathaniel, Savannah, Hudson, Jackson, and Gabrielle Hunt, Jessica and Tanner Bacon, Courtney and Tyler Senters, and Zaiden, Rylen and Paisley Fields; siblings, Connie (Bill) Hiles, Garnet (Larry) Shears, Linda (Mitchell) Goble, and Elizabeth Fields; his mother-in-law, Edna Porterfield; sisters-in-law, Janet (Roger) Cox and Debbie (Sonny) Miller; brother-in-law, Kevin (Tammy) Layne; and a host of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of his Life will be held 4:00 pm Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Community of Christ, Ironton, OH, with Pastor Debbie Hixon, Elder Sue Schneider and Elder Michael Whitehead officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund at Community of Christ, 308 North Ellison, Ironton, OH 45638 or to the family to help with expenses. Chapman's Mortuary, Huntington, is assisting the family.
