ObituaryIt is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our son Caleb Alexander VanMatre, 20, of Huntington. He was granted his angel wings Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Cabell Huntington Hospital, following a tragic accident. Caleb was a beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend to so many. He leaves behind a family that loved him more than words could ever express. His gentle smile could melt those around him. He was known for his enormous heart, his listening ear, and a shoulder to cry on for anyone that needed him. Despite the many setbacks Caleb faced he always fought to keep moving forward. He was a high school graduate of an online homeschool program, and had recently gained employment with S.S. Logan packing company. He was so excited to finally be a working man. Caleb loved sports. Growing up he played soccer, baseball, basketball, and football. He recently became a Cleveland Browns fan when he and his mother attended his first NFL game together. Caleb had many nicknames given to him by family and friends. At any point he would answer to little Big man, Bubba, Bubby, C-Van, Fat C, Big Baby, mommas sweetie, baby boy, Big Dream, and so many others that were given to him in love. He was born October 11, 2000 in Huntington a son of Katherine "Kelley" Ball of Huntington and Joseph (Joey) Aaron VanMatre of Huntington. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Sue VanMatre. Caleb attended New Life Church for most of his life. It was there he accepted Jesus Christ into his heart and was also baptized. In addition to his parents, survivors include, two sisters, Victoria (Tori) Snow VanMatre of Huntington, and Brianna Summer VanMatre and companion, Jordan Adams of Huntington; a very special nephew, Asher Tate Adams of Huntington; paternal grandfather, John VanMatre III of Barboursville; maternal grandparents Ruth and Alan Coleman, of Ona; also maternal grandparents David and Yvonne Ball, of Huntington; maternal great grandparents, Chuck and Phyllis Knapp of Huntington; several aunts and uncles, Roger and Tina Pugh, Billy Adkins, Chris and Marie Frazier, Jeff and Shana Frazier, and Becka and Farrah VanMatre; special friends, Owen Arnold, Chris Jamez, Derek Kirk, and countless more, and many loved cousins.
