Obituary


Richard Arlen "Sug" McLeod, 85, widower of Elizabeth Jane Steele McLeod, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at The Village of Riverview, Barboursville. He was born January 13, 1936 in Huntington, a son of the late Hugh and Dorothy McLeod. In addition to his wife and parents', other family members that have preceded him in death were a son, Curtis Lee McLeod; and two sisters, Kathryn "Kay" Dailey and Dorothy "Dot" Smoot. He was retired from Owens Illinois having been a machine foreman for over 35 years. Richard was a graduate of Vinson High School and a member of the 1955 team that was runner-up in the WV state basketball championship. He also was a big supporter of Marshall University Athletic Programs, having been a 50+ year season ticket holder for both football and basketball. He volunteered at Habitat for Humanity and was a member of Highlawn Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Kathy McLeod of Herndon, VA; two grandchildren, Kelly McLeod of Richmond, VA., and Erik McLeod of McLean, VA; and a niece, Beverly Fields of Redwood Forest, California. Memorial services will be conducted for both Sug and Jane McLeod at Highlawn Presbyterian Church on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 6pm. Private inurnment services will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
