Nellie Gipson Keeler
(February 19, 1914 - August 27, 2008)



Nellie Gipson Vines Keeler 94, of Huntington, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington. Nellie was born February 19, 1914 in Jefferson County, Alabama, the daughter of Robert Gipson and Sarah Price Gipson. She attended Aracoma High School in Logan County, West Virginia. She was a graduate of Huntington Practical Nursing School and was employed twenty three years at Cabell Huntington Hospital working in various departments, including labor and delivery and recovery. Nellie attended Marshall College in Huntington studying Bible and Religion. She taught the senior class Sunday school, at the Original Glorious Church of God in Christ in Huntington.

Nellie was a previous member of the National Association of Practical Nurses, Golden Star Temple #534 I.B.P.O.E.W., Elks of the World Daughter of Isis Fezz Club. She assisted the mother of the Glorious Church in keeping the Church doors open for noon day prayer for years while working. She left the Original Glorious Church in good standing and united with Full Gospel Assembly.

Nellie was predeceased by her husbands, Joel W. Vines, Moxie H. Keeler her daughter Sarah Vines Slaughter, and a grandson Keith Slaughter. Nellie leaves to cherish her memory her son, William (Sharon) Keeler, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Nellie’s prayer was to see the birth of her grandchildren but God allowed her to live to be the matriarch of four generations. Her memory and life’s lessons will be cherished by seven grandchildren, Kenneth Slaughter of Huntington, West Virginia, Roland (Vickie) Slaughter of District Heights, MD, Cynthia (Lloyd) Pate of Columbus Ohio, William Keeler II, Karen Keeler, Marian Cunningham and Robert Bowling, all of Cincinnati, Ohio, eight great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, attentive niece and care giver, Ethea Scott as well as other nieces and nephews along with long time friends and neighbors. Funeral Services will he conducted 1:00pm Monday Sept. 1, 2008 at Full Gospel Assembly with Rev. Samuel Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until service time at the church. Services are entrusted to Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington.
