Katherine Elizabeth Tyler
(May 14, 1921 - March 3, 2011)

Katherine Elizabeth "Doodle" Tyler, widow of John W. Tyler, died on March 3, 2011 at Huntington Health and Rehabilitation, Huntington. She was born May 14, 1921 in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Anthony and Lottie Hill Thompson. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Mrs. Tyler was employed at the J.W. Scott Community Center as Assistant Director for many years until she relocated to Long Beach, CA in 1964. While in Long Beach, she was an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church. She returned to Huntington in 2009 and reunited with the First Baptist Church where she attended regularly until her health failed. She is survived by her sister, Beatrice Thompson Johnson, and brother, Charles (Jean) Thompson, both of Huntington, WV. She is also survived by here sister-in-law, Mary (Reginald) Payne of Hyattsville, MD, special friends, James and Herma Bell of Long Beach, CA; numerous nieces and nephews which she loved dearly, and a host of friends in Huntington, WV and Long Beach, CA. It was Doodle's wishes that there be no public viewing or services. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home is assisting the family.
