Kevin Herbert McClain
KEVIN HERBERT McCLAIN was born on March 25, 1952 to Bessie Lee Herbert McClain in Huntington, W.Va. He attended Barnett Child Care and Oley Elementary School. He graduated from Huntington High School in June, 1970. He attended Virginia Union University and Marshall University. On November 10, 1973, he married Kathleen Denise Tyson at First Baptist Church in Huntington, W.Va., and was blessed with one daughter. Kevin was employed as an Operator at Marathon Petroleum Company in Catlettsburg, Ky., since 2007. He was previously employed with the Huntington Sanitary Board, City of Huntington and Greyhound Lines East. In the early years, he attended Young's Chapel AME Church and later became a member of First Baptist Church. He was an ordained Deacon and Past President of the Deacon Board at First Baptist and remained active until the time of his passing. Kevin also served as Vice President and Past Secretary of the Mt. Olivet Ministers and Deacons Union. Kevin served as a former Board member for Goodwill Industries, American Red Cross Blood Services, The Huntington Area Habitat for Humanity, First Baptist Church Housing Association (Rotary Gardens Apartments), Positive Force Inc., and J.W. Scott Community Center. Staying actively involved in the community, he served as a Past vice Chair for the City of Huntington Planning Commission and was a former President of Marshall University Black Alumni Association and Douglass-Huntington High Schools Black Alumni Association. In addition, he was a Mason of Alexander-Freeman Lodge No.2 in Huntington, W.Va. Kevin was an avid football fan of the Cleveland Browns and Marshall University Thundering Herd. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 39 years, Kathy; one daughter, Katrina McClain Tarry (Jamahl) of Atlanta, Ga.; one son, Vince "Tony" Marsh (Lisa) of Texas, his mother, Bessie Lee Herbert McClain of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Teresa McClain Green of Cleveland, Ohio; granddaughters Allon and Janari; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church. The home-going service will be at First Baptist Church, 801 Sixth Avenue, Huntington, WV at 12 noon, Friday, August 24, 2012, with Reverend Donte' Jackson, officiating. Burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or First Baptist Church, Huntington, W.Va. The care and services for Mr. McClain have been entrusted to Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home.
