Kenneth Leon Slaughter
(February 20, 1953 - February 6, 2016)



Kenneth Leon Slaughter, 62, of Huntington, WV went to be with The Lord February 6, 2016 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. He was born February 20, 1953. Kenneth was a lifelong resident of Huntington. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Slaughter and Sarah Vines-Slaughter; grandmother, Nellie Gipson-Keeler and brother; Keith T. Slaughter. Kenneth is survived by his daughter; Shunté J. Ramsey of Indian Head, MD; brother, Roland Slaughter (Glenyce) of Louisville, KY; sister, Cynthia Pate (Lloyd) of Columbus, OH; grandson, Tyreek Ramsey; granddaughter, De’ja Brown; niece, Symone Pate and nephew, Darrius Slaughter-Pate. Also surviving are several cousins and many beloved friends. Kenneth was a graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology. He was one of the good guys who never met a stranger. He enjoyed thought-provoking conversations about politics and what was happening in his community. Kenneth had a passion and love for his community and the youth who lived in it. He was considered a big brother and mentor too many young men. His employment career included working at the A.D. Lewis Boys Club. He tutored adults in basic education and was an experienced social worker and worked as a residential counselor with troubled youth. Kenneth was protective, faithful caring and devoted to his family and friends. Always spreading his words of wisdom, whether you were ready to listen or not. He opened his heart and home to friends for a meal or a place to lay their heads when they were away from their home or had no place to go. Kenneth was a good man with a big heart! Funeral services will be at 1:00p.m., Friday, February 12, 2016 at Full Gospel Assembly with Pastor Samuel Moore officiating. Family will welcome friends one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park.
