George W. Gibson, 79, of
Glenwood,
WV, passed away in St. Mary's
Medical
Center on Sunday, July
23, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral
services will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Heck Funeral
Home, Milton with Rev. Henry Clay officiating. He was
born January 17, 1927 in
Putnam County,
WV a son of the late Roscoe
Conklin and Margie Inez Wallace Gibson. He is also
preceded in death were two sisters, Faye and Freda Gibson; five brothers,
Freeman "Pete", Uri "Tuck", Wayne, Frye and Jim Gibson.
Survivors include, Velma his wife of 57 years; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Ramona and Alan Zimmerman of Milton and Barbara "Bobbi" and
Gary Garr of Huntington; three grandchildren, Chris (Kristi) Zimmerman,
Laura (Tommy) Hogsett, and Megan Carr; four great grandchildren, Julian and
Chelsey Hogsett, and Jacob and Caitlyn Zimmerman; one sister, Marion Fulks
of Milton; one brother, Granville Gibson of Parkersburg; several nieces and
nephews; and Linda Hanel and her family of Janesville, WI, whom he
considered as his foster daughter. George was a member
of the
Sunrise
United
Methodist
Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in
Austria,
Korea, and during the
Berlin Crisis. He retired from Armco as a welder and was
a farmer, carpenter, former Mayor of Milton, President of the Milton High
School Band Boosters, member of the Milton Lions Club, VFW Post 9798, and
American Legion Post 139. He loved his God, his country,
his family and his friends. Friends may call from 6 to 9
p.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Heck Funeral Home, Milton.
