Obituary
Nellie Mae Hutchinson,
87, of Huntington passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2014. She was
born January 10, 1928, a daughter of the late James Clinton and Eva Warden
Cartmill. She married Lon Clinton Hutchinson of Milton on October 11, 1947.
They were married 50 years until his passing on October 19, 1997. She was
also preceded in death by three sisters, Ida Mildred Finley, Betty Jane
Arnold and Stella Marie Runyon and one brother, Larry Dale Cartmill. Nellie
was a member and Salutatorian of Barboursville High School Class of 1946.
She was employed by the State of WV for 40 years until her retirement from
Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital at the age of 76. She received many honors
and governor’s awards during her career. Nellie was a devout Christian who
served her churches as Sunday school teacher to many children over decades.
As a pianist and a soloist, she gave her testimony in song, sharing her gift
of a beautiful soprano voice. Nellie is survived by two daughters, Patricia
Lonnelle Tiano of Fairmont, WV and Clarissa (Michael Shawn) Steffen of
Wayne; one brother, William Raymond (Sharon) Cartmill of Hurricane; one
sister-in-law, Nancy Cartmill of Barboursville and numerous nieces and
nephews. She is also survived by her cat, “Little Henry”. Friends may call
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Heck Funeral Home,
Milton. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will follow
in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington.
