ObituaryEARL CLINTON BEVINS
EARL CLINTON BEVINS, 91, of Huntington, W.Va., died March 1, 2016. He was born July 31, 1924, in Kenova, the son of Augusta Elizabeth Ratliff Bevins and Grover Cleveland Bevins. Papa B was a man of great strength – physically, mentally and spiritually – with a great softness for family, gardening and bluebirds. He was raised and worked hard on the family farm on Harmons Branch near Pikeville, Ky., graduating from Pikeville High School before serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II, and studying at Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He married Delphine Turner in 1948 and worked his way through the University of Kentucky, earning a B.S. in mechanical engineering while raising two young boys. After an engineering position with Schlumberger, he started his own oil and gas production company, Petroleum Surveys. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Del, six siblings: Cephas, Herbert, Curtis, Mildred, Harold and Ruth, and son-in-law Leskie Pinson. He is survived by his children: Dave Bevins, his wife Molly and daughter Jenny; Bruce Bevins, his wife, Patty and children Bruce II (wife Arianne), Natalie (husband Zachary Roy) and Erica; Elizabeth Pinson and children Cayley and Turner; and seven great-grandchildren: Molly, Connor, Hayden, Harrison, Carter, Nathaniel and Ella. Earl was a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church. His deep faith was most evident when offering beautiful, daily family prayers. We wish to thank Debbie Short, whose help enabled him to live independently at home until a few short weeks ago, and the caring ICU staff at the Huntington VA Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday, March 4, at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary, 6357 E. Pea Ridge Road, Huntington near Barboursville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, March 5, at Henson & Kitchen Mortuary with burial following in the B.D. Ratliff-Bevins Family Cemetery near Pikeville. A memorial service will be Sunday at the home of his son
