Maynard "Bob" Karnes
(November 25, 1934 - January 17, 2011)



Maynard Robert “Bob” Karnes 76, of Huntington W.V. passed away peacefully on Monday January 17, 2011 while visiting family in South Carolina. He was born November 25, 1934 to the late James and Lizzie Karnes of Huntington. Bob retired from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad System and later from the City of Huntington where he was head of the city’s inspection and permit departments. He graduated from Huntington East HS, attended Marshall University and was in the Army division of the U.S. military. Bob is best remembered for his hard work, willingness to help anyone who asked and as a loving husband to his wife of 52 years, Betty P. Karnes. Bob and Betty were married September 19, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Huntington were they remained active members and renewed their wedding vows on their 10th, 25th and 50th Anniversaries. He is survived by wife Betty as well as their four children (spouses) and eleven grandchildren. Daughter Tammy (Alan) children Alexandra and Victoria Stowasser of Rock Hill, SC. Son James (Melinda) children Ethan, Matthew and Taylor Karnes of Huntington WV. Daughter Julie (Jeffrey) children Kathryn, Christopher and Benjamin Booth of Rock Hill SC. Son Chuck (Elizabeth) children Margaret, Patrick and Andrew Karnes of Huntington WV. And a brother Bill (Tina) Karnes of Huntington. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers Oliver, James, Colby, Louis and Leo Karnes. His visitation will be held this evening at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary from 5-7. The funeral mass will be held Saturday 11 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church by Monsignor Lawrence Luciana, Celebrant. A burial service will immediately follow at the chapel of the Woodmere Memorial Park. He will be missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
