Martha Ellen
Churton
(July 29, 1922 - September 28, 2011)
Martha Ellen Churton, 89, of
Huntington, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011. She was born July 29, 1922,
in Ottawa, Illinois, the daughter of the late George and Eunice Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Paul M. Churton.
Martha was a graduate of Ohio State University in Dietetics and Nutrition,
where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. After living 22 years in
Daytona Beach, Florida, Martha and Paul returned to Huntington to reside at
the Woodlands Retirement Community. Martha was an active member of First
Presbyterian Church. She volunteered for organizations such as the Daytona
Beach Library for the Blind, and was a docent for the Huntington Museum of
Art. She enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. She is survived by two sons,
Bruce (Barbara) Churton of Huntington, and Pete (Beth) Churton of Beaumont,
Texas, two granddaughters, Laura Churton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Sarah
Churton, of Cleveland, Ohio, and one grandson, Matthew Churton of
Huntington. She is also survived by her sister, Maryann (Bob) Miller of
Pittsburgh, PA. The family would like to thank The Woodlands Healthcare
staff and Hospice of Huntington. The family is also thankful for the support
of her friends Virginia Riggall, Ann Dexter, Joyce Ey, and Linda Craig. A
memorial service will be held 11 AM Monday at First Presbyterian Church by
the Reverend John Minihan and the Reverend Skip Seibel. The family will
receive visitors one hour before the service in the Atrium of the church.
Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. Expression of
sympathy may be made to the Huntington Symphony Orchestra.
