Irvine Winter Parsons
(October 4, 1920 - November 1, 2013)
Irvine
Winter Parsons,
93, of Huntington, West Virginia died peacefully at home on November 1,
2013. Irvine was born October 4, 1920, in
Montour, Pennsylvania. She was the late daughter of August F.
Winter and Agnes
Winter of Logan, West Virginia. She was a music teacher in the Cabell
County School system for forty years having taught music to thousands of
children at both Lincoln Elementary and Beverly Hills Junior High School.
After retiring from full time teaching, Irvine
continued to substitute teach in Cabell County until the age of 92. It had
been reported that she was the eldest teacher teaching in the State of West
Virginia. Irvine had always said, "My
greatest love after family was my teaching of all my students. I loved
working with all of them. It was my life's work."
Irvine was a graduate of Logan High School and West Virginia
University. She pursued post-graduate music training at Marshall University
and the University of Toronto. She was a member and elder at Enslow Park
Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E.
Parsons, her siblings, Dr. August F.
Winter, Jr., Robert
Winter, Eleanor J. Cunningham, all of
Logan, West Virginia, and Lorraine Maynard of Tucson, Arizona. Surviving her
are her children, Karen L. Penick of Savannah, Georgia, and William E.
Parsons II of Wheeling, West Virginia. She
is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna L. Crow of Wheeling,
grandchildren, Elizabeth F. Smith, Matthew A.
Parsons, and Jeffrey E. Parsons, and
great grandchildren, Olivia L. Smith, Eleanor E. Smith, Mac R.
Parsons and Sawyer D.
Parsons. Guests will be received at
Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, 328 6th Avenue, Huntington for visitation on
Monday, November 4, 2013, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church on
Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place
immediately after the service at Ridgelawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The
family would like to offer a special "thank you" to Hospice of Huntington in
memory of Mrs.
Parsons sister, Eleanor Cunningham.
