Shelba Glenn Pew

Shelba
Glenn Pew,
99, of Huntington, was reunited with her cherished family and loving Lord on
the morning of November 7, 2013 at her home in the Woodlands Community.
Shelba was born March 10, 1914 in
Huntington, the only child of William Cunningham
Pew and Mary Love Pew. She spent her
childhood in Huntington WV, walking through the Marshall College campus on
her way to elementary school where she would later graduate in 1936 from the
Teacher's Program and then went on to receive a Master's Degree from Duke
University. Shelba was passionate about
education and helping others reach their dreams of receiving an education by
the many scholarships and research she funded. As a philanthropist she was a
member of the Old Main Society, Founders Circle and received the Marshall
University Alumni Association Distinguished service award in 2010. During WW
II she served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy W.A.V.E.S. (Women
Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) Ms.
Pew returned to West Virginia and taught
Science in the public school system until her retirement so she could care
for her ailing mother. She is survived by her cousins, Margie Leap, her son,
David Leap; Dr. Charles Clark and Don Hinerman. And also left to remember
her are very dear friends, Kristi Arrowood and Ruth Johnson. It is suggested
that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to her church home,
Bethesda United Methodist Church, 118 Bethesda Drive, Ona, WV 25545 or to
the H. Leslie Leap Scholarship, c/o Community of Grace UMC, 225 28th. St.,
Huntington, WV 25702. Klingel Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of
arrangements.
