Eugene Erwin Pofahl
(August 24, 1929 - August 23, 2014)



Eugene “Gene” Pofahl, 84, of Huntington, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Woodlands Health Care. He was born August 24, 1929 in El Paso, Texas a son of the late Walter Emerson and Louise Kluender Pofahl. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Lilia Rosemond Pofahl, and two brothers, Thomas and Stuart Pofahl. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Texas (Austin) where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering and in 1959 his MBA from Harvard University. He was a engineer and business executive. He was a member of University of Texas Friends of Alec, Harvard Business School Alumni Association, Rotary Club of Huntington, Noon Club, City Club, Collis P Huntington Railroad Society, Salvation Army, Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honors Society, Big Green and past president of the Harvard Club of WV. He is survived by his wife, Ann Beverley Pofahl; his children Walter E. Pofahl, II MD (Sherry) of Greenville, NC., William G. Pofahl (Kim) of Crestwood, KY., Susan Pofahl McCall (Patrick) of Roswell, GA., and Deborah L. Pofahl of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Thomas R. Pofahl (Jayne), Andrew Pofahl, Walter E. Pofahl, III, Caroline M. McCall, Erin E. McCall, Will J. McCall and Jack S. Pofahl; two sisters, Irma Ruth Brown, June Combs; a brother James W. Pofahl and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary by The Rev. James H. Morgan. Friends may call Saturday 12:30 until service time at the Funeral Home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Woodlands Healthcare Staff for their care and compassion and to Hospice of Huntington for their help and support in his final weeks.
