Hugh Allen Howard

Allen Howard, 72, of Huntington, died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in St. Mary's Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held 7 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at Klingel Carpenter Mortuary. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until service time.  Allen was born May 5, 1941 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Arnold and Hester Thornburg Howard. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Howard Jr. and sister, Patty Sawyers; nephew, Chris Lyons. He was a 1958 graduate of Huntington East High School. Allen served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He started his career with the C & O Rail Road in Huntington, transferred to Baltimore, MD and retired from the Jacksonville, FL offices of the CSX Corporation. Upon retirement, Allen returned to Huntington to be closer to his family and friends. He then began working for the Wayne Wal-Mart of which he dearly loved working and meeting new people. Allen lived life to its fullest and never met a stranger. Survivors include his sisters, Betty Lyons of Chesapeake, OH and Debbie Jordan and husband Chris of Huntington; five nephews, Bill, Richard and Robert Lyons, Bradlee Jordan and JR Sawyers; 7 nieces, Melody Carte, Laura Black, Toni Lyons, Deanna Whitman, Karen and Donna Sawyers and LeeAnn Howard; a host of friends and a special dog "Rosie". The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. prior to the memorial service.
