Margie Hinerman Leap

Margie Hinerman Leap, widow of Herman L. Leap, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at her home at Woodland Retirement Community. She was born in Huntington on September 27, 1917, a daughter of Sallie Love and David O. Hinerman. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son, Dr. H. Leslie Leap, two sisters, Mary H. Johnson and Helene H. Clark; brother, Harry H. Hinerman and beloved cousin, Shelba Pew. Margie was Honorarian of her class at Huntington High School, graduating with honors and awards. A former teacher and Language Arts Supervisor for Cabell County Schools, she received her B.A. and M.A. degrees from Marshall University. She was a former member of Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma National Honorary organizations and Pi Kappa Sigma Sorority, and held may offices in regional, state and national education and reading associations, as well as in the Woman's Club of Huntington, Cabell Huntington Hospital Auxiliary (charter member) P.E.O. Chapter M and the D.A.R. She was an avid duplicate bridge player and was a Kentucky Colonel. Margie was a life-long Methodist and taught Sunday School for many years at the former Seventh Avenue Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, David P. (Kathryn) Leap of Huntington and Sarasota, Fl; grandsons Shayne (Kari) Wetherall of Cary, NC, and David Rhett (Tina) Leap of Raleigh, NC, two great-granddaughters, Laine and Gage Wetherall of Cary, nephews Dr. Charles Cark of Huntington Beach, CA, and Don L. (LaDonna) Hinerman of Coos Bay, OR, and niece, Dr. Carolyn Clark of Huntington. Graveside services will be performed by the Rev. David Cartwright at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Springhill Cemetery. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dr. H. Leslie Leap Education Fund, c/o Community of Grace United Methodist Church, 225 28th Street, Huntington, WV 25702. The family would like to thank both the Woodlands Third Floor Healthcare staff and Hospice of Huntington staff for their wonderful care. Following the graveside service, the family will receive friends at the Woodlands from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
