Obituary

Betty Colker
(February 19, 1921 - April 16, 2016)

BETTY GALPIN COLKER, beloved wife of Herbert Colker and devoted mother of Larry, Steven, David, and Deborah Colker, died Saturday, April 16, at her home on 15 Tynes Lane. She was 95.  Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 19, 1921, Ms. Colker moved to Huntington in 1946. Throughout her life, Betty was an enthusiastic supporter of the arts and music. There was always music playing in her house. Betty also loved loved to read and to travel. Her trips, often with her sister Miriam, took her all over the world, and her knowledge of European history was extensive. She also occasionally served as a substitute teacher in the public school system. Her love of learning led her to audit many classes at Marshall University. Betty and Herb celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on August 23rd. Betty will be missed by all those that knew her.  Funeral services will be held at B’Nai Shalom Temple on Sunday, April 24, at 1:00pm, to be followed by a private graveside service for the family. The family is requesting that all donations be made to the Cincinnati Opera, which is where Herb and Betty met while they were in high school and whose performances they enjoyed together for seventy years.
