ObituaryMargarette Virginia Sellards
Margarette Sellards, 97, peacefully passed away on April 11, 2016 at the Woodlands Retirement Community in Huntington, WV. She was born July 4, 1918, in Logan, WV. Margarette was the third of five children born to George and Hattie Mitchell and resided in West Virginia all of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband , John D. Sellards; daughter, Nancy Wheeler and son-in-law Wiley Wheeler; and three brothers, Arnold, Leroy and Mason Mitchell. Survivors include a sister, Mary Mitchell of Barboursville; and daughter, Cindy Bennett; son-in-law, Carroll Bennett; and grand-daughter Tina Bennett all of Litchfield Park, AZ. Margarette was an active member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church; the Huntington Woman’s Club; and returned to college later in life and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education. She was an avid golfer and could be seen playing and winning at Knob Hill and Guyan Country Club. Family and friends were her love and joy. Playing bridge was a favorite pass time. Margarette loved cooking and entertaining and family with Thanksgiving dinner being the highlight of the year. She was also a self-taught organist, hum a tune and Margarette would play the tune. Margarette Sellards, a quiet person, but a woman that was a head of her time. A strong-willed person, but a person that enjoyed and relished life regardless of what life presented. With Margarette’s passing, earth became poorer, but Heaven became richer. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2016 in the Woodmere Memorial Park’s Abbey of Remembrance with the Rev. Jana Stoner officiating.
