Obituary
Roy Linville Sloan
March 19, 1944 - July 1, 2016)
Roy Linville Sloan - born March 19,
1944, Heaven bound on July 1, 2016. In a breath he has left us and walked
into he arms of his Savior. Now he is running with Jesus and the angels down
streets of gold. His mom and dad, brothers and sisters meet him, arm in arm,
they walk to his mansion built just for him. Listen close, you can hear the
angels singing and rejoicing – he has come home. His rewards are many, his
crown must be heavy upon his head. His pain is gone, he suffers no more. A
man of character, gentleness, strength and perseverance he fought his
battles and conquered them all. He is the victor over cancer and death,
resting in Jesus' arms. He is my beloved. His pride are his children, whom
he loved without condition and believed in them to achieve their hearts
desire. He wishes for them to embrace life with joy, pursue their dreams,
never give up, and most of all remember how much he loves each of them. His
joy are his grandchildren and great grandson. He never hesitated to kiss and
hug them, and even though they range from 23 -12 years old, he still
referred to them as his babies. He joined the Air Force in 1962, and was
honorably discharged in 1966. A graduate of Marshall University, he achieved
a degree in chemistry. Left behind to celebrate his memory are his wife of
39 years, Paula Kay, 3 sons and 3 daughters, Neil and Tanya, Christain and
Carrie, and Ryan and Susan. 9 grandchildren, Alec, Paige, Caitlin, Raven,
Cky, Hannah, Kailey, Jillian, and Brandon, and great grandson Jeremiah.
Sisters Elizabeth “Libby” Sloan Beckett and Merle Jean Manns (Tom), brother
Dennis (Nancy) and many nieces and nephews. He is the son of Basil and
Madeline Parsons-Sloan, both deceased. Welcoming him in Heaven are his
sister Linda Vinecourt (Bruce), brothers James and Bobby Dale. The family
wishes to thank Dr. Eva Tackett, (Byrd Clinical Center) we love you, The
Huntington VA for exceptional care, and The Emogene Dolen Jones Hospice
House, thank you for honoring him. There will be no visitation. Grave side
services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Ridgelawn
Memorial Park. Pastor Larry Greene will be officiating and brother-in-law
Fred Copley giving the eulogy. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a
donation be made to the Marshall University Football program in his name.
Casual attire is requested, Marshall University colors are encouraged. An
avid Marshall fan, now he is running with the Herd.
