Charles Morton Polan Jr.
(August 25., 1948 - May 19, 2016)


Charles M. “Chuck” Polan Jr., 69, of Huntington, West Virginia died Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles M. and Ruth Polan and his sister Jeanne. Chuck worked in the family real estate business developing and managing commercial property. Chuck began running for elected office in his twenties. Over nearly forty years Chuck won nineteen elections, including his last May 10, 2016 and lost four for local and state offices. Chuck described the eight years he chaired the finance committee in the West Virginia House of Delegates as “the most fun years of his career”. Chuck’s most challenging, were the eight years he served as an appointed Cabinet Secretary during the Caperton Administration. He also served as a former member of the Huntington City Council. Polan is survived by his wife, Carol, two sisters and their husbands; Mary Lake and Frank A. Bennack and Lynn and Robert Garbowitz, his mother-in-law, Bobbie Webb, his wife Carol’s three children; Alicia, Trae and Daniel Elswick (wife, Betsy), two grandchildren; Ethan Elswick and Brittany McIntyre (husband, Jeremiah), and three great grandchildren; Zoe Davin and Bianca and Stella McIntyre, his step-mother in-law Dawn Bennett, his sister-in Law Debbie Moore, his brother in law Richard Bennett (wife, Jayne), and his sister-in-law Lisa Tanner (husband, Tom). Chuck was fortunate to have a loving relationship with Stephanie Howell and Robert Einstein whom he considered the daughter and son he never had. His nieces, nephews, cousins and friends brought great joy to Chuck’s life. Visitation will be at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday, June 4, 2016 followed by a graveside service at 4 pm at Spring Hill Cemetery in Huntington, West Virginia. His dear friend Nancy Bulla of Lewisburg will officiate the graveside service.
