Obituary

Nina Vaughn Richardson
(October 8, 1922 - May 12, 2016)



Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be conducted 1p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Steve Hensley. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon prior to the service She was born October 8, l922 in Barbour County, WV, daughter of the late Carlton Willis and Gertrude White Cook. She was a Registered Nurse. She attended the University of Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital and graduated from The Union Protestant Hospital School of Nursing in Clarksburg, WV, where she was employed as an instructor in the School of Nursing and later as night supervisor of the Union Protestant Hospital during WWII. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a church school teacher and counselor for the youth program. She was a member of the Women’s Society for Christian Services serving in various offices and committees. She was an alumna of Delta Zeta Sorority and was College Chapter Director for the Marshall University Chapter. She was a charter member of Chapter P (WV) of the PEO Sisterhood. As a devoted member of Contact Huntington, she served as an officer on the Contact Board of Directors and in various other capacities for 28 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years William H. Richardson, a brother Willis Dever Cook of Naples, Florida and a sister Doris Miller of Moatsville, WV. She is survived by a daughter Ann Barabe of Winston-Salem, NC, a son Mark Richardson and his wife Sue of Rome, OH, five grandchildren Steven Richardson of Hurricane, WV, Susan Fleckenstein and her husband Kurt of Huntington, Wesley Richardson and his wife Martha of Huntington, Deanne Weir and her husband Jeff of Winston-Salem, NC, Alan Barabe and his wife Bettina of Winston-Salem, NC, and three step-grandchildren Traci Schuetz and her husband Mike of Bristow, VA, Dr. Laura Jacks and her husband Dean of Prospect, KY and John Kroening and his wife Sara of Alpharetta, GA, fifteen great grandchildren Brianna, Maleah, Zachary, Olivia and Ava Weir, Adam, Ethan and Emma Fleckenstein, Riley Richardson, Reed, Ben and William Barabe, Audrey, Ella and Jack Richardson, six step-great grandchildren Matt, Mikayla and AJ Schuetz, Mitchell Jacks, Chloe and Caroline Kroening, a sister and brother-in-law Agnes and Henry M. Hewitt of Scarborough, ME, a brother-in-law Jack Miller of Moatsville, WV, a sister-in-law Joyce Cook of Greenville, SC and many wonderful nieces and nephews.The family would like to give special thanks to the Woodlands Third Floor Healthcare Staff and especially John Manifold for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Huntington, WV or to your favorite charity.
