Merle Lucas Willey
(February 11, 1922 - January 7, 2017)



Merle L. Willey, 94, of Huntington, died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Woodlands Health Care Facility. She was born February 11, 1922 in Kimball, WV, a daughter of the late Luther and Lake Marshall Lucas. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold L. Willey; a sister, June Bell and a brother, Luther Willey. Mrs. Willey was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church and was a retired school teacher having taught at Pleasant Valley, Miller and Park Hills schools. She was a graduate of Marshall University and was a member of Tri Sigma Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the M.U. Faculty Wives Club; the Woman’s Club of Huntington and the Cabell County Association of Retired School Employees. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dr. Gordon D. Willey and Vicki of San Antonio, TX and COL (ret) James M. Willey and Betty of Poinciana, FL. 5 grandchildren, Erica Hand, Brittany Bader and her husband, Ryan, Ryan Willey and his wife Kelly, Kyle Willey and his wife, Jennifer, Jeffrey Willey and his wife Rena; and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 13, 2016 at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Terry Deane in the Gray Hampton Room at the Woodlands Retirement Community. Inurnment will be held privately in Spring Hill Cemetery. Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
