Harold Nathan Kagan
(June 3, 1919 - September 3, 2017)


Harold Nathan Kagan of Huntington, WV passed away on the 3rd day of September 2017 at the Woodlands Health Care in Huntington, WV. Harold was born June3, 1919 in Greenville, New York. He was the son of Abraham Kagan and Anna Leibowitz Kagan. Harold married Freda Donna Kagan on February 14, 1943. He is survived by his children, Scot Alexander Kagan (Sylvia), Drew Terrill Kagan (Bridget), and Brent Siegel Kagan (Lesa); grandchildren, Lisa Beth Kagan (Ellen), Melissa Kagan, Suzanne Kagan Wilson (Matt), Paige Kagan, Nathan Kagan, Hope Kagan, Lindsey Williams, Paul Rogers (Karen), Annette Shepherd (Ashley) and Mark Rogers (Mary); great-grandchildren, Alexander Kagan, Savannah Wilson, Anna McLean Kagan Aiken, Abby Rubich (Josh), Ethan Rogers (Kayla), Alex Omega Rogers, Lottie Shepherd, Jas Shepherd and Rex Rogers; great-great grandchildren, Tennie, Cela and Sloane Rubich and Broxdon Rogers. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Freda Bondareff Levinson Kagan and two brothers, Alexander Kagan and Benjamin Kagan. Harold received his B.A. degree from George Washington University in 1941 and graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1943. He did his Internship and Residency in Surgery at Lincoln Hospital in Bronx, NY. He was Captain in the U.S. Army in WWII serving in the Medical Corp. he was Resident in Urology at the VA Hospital in Baltimore, MD, affiliated with John Hopkins Hospital and the University of Maryland, Urology Department, Fellow of American College of Surgeons and Clinical Professor of Urology at Marshall Medical School at its onset. He practiced Urology in Huntington, WV 1953 to 1995, and was associated with Dr. Carl Hoffman. He was active at the C & O Hospital for over 20 years, as well as Memorial Hospital, St. Mary’s and Cabell Huntington Hospital (past President of the Medical Staff). Harold also went to Logan, WV weekly to see patients. Harold had memberships in Cabell County Medical Society(past President), West Virginia Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Urological Association (on various Committees), and Southern Medical Association. He was a member of B’nai Brith (past President). He has been a Rotarian and Life Member of the Elks. Harold enjoyed playing Duplicate Bridge and Golf. He had 3 Holes in one at Guyan Golf and Country Club. Services will be held at 4:00 pm., Sunday, September 24, 2017 at B’nai Sholom Congregation by Rabbi Jean Eglinton, those wishing to honor Harold are encouraged to make a donation to B’nai Sholom Congregation.
