Thelma Gilliam
(August 3, 1925 - August 27, 2018)
Thelma Ruth Gilliam,
93, of Huntington, passed away peacefully, Monday, August 27, 2018 at her
home. Thelma was a wonderful woman loved by all. She will be missed and will
always be cherished as a beloved mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and
friend. Thelma was born August 3, 1925 in Catlettsburg, KY, daughter of the
late Earl and Oakie Meeks. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in
death by her husband Roscoe Gilliam and second husband, Thomas Charlton; a
daughter, Sandra Porter; three sisters, Helen Wetzel, Jeanette Zornes and
Dorothy Meeks and by one brother, Donnie Meeks; son-in-law, Richard
Pennington and two grandchildren, Ricky Pennington and Devona Ruth
McKnight. Thelma served her country in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate
first class during WW II. She loved her family dearly and is survived by
her daughter, Terisha Pennington of Huntington; six grandchildren, Terisha
Dawn (Chuck) Johnson, Tammy (Johnny) Glassburn, Debi (David) Logan, Timmy
(Debbie) Porter, Dwayne (Chasity) Porter, and Bobby (Julie) Porter; 13
great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. The family would
like to thank everyone who cared for Mrs. Gilliam at the V.A. Hospital and
Hospice of Huntington. A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m.
Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Spring Hill Cemetery.
