Milton
On the loading dock at Roberts Department Store
Roberts Department Store in Milton, a major landmark for many
decades, received many boxes. Sometime in the 1940's or 1950's someone
decided it would be nice to take a photo of the employees with a shipment.
From left: Asa Walden, Chester Blake, Everette Cummings, Broaddus Ball, John
Lawhorn, Alberta Morrison Roberts, a real "dummy" ( ventriloquist-style)
sitting on a box in the middle, Maude Glenn, Cat Bird Jimmison or Samp
Roberts, Ford Roberts and Mack Roberts. The dummy is a Charlie McCarthy,
made famous by the radio show of Edgar Bergen. (photo courtesy of Betty
