Obituary
BETTY A. JOHNSON,
81, passed from this world to the next on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, in the
warmth of her home. She was the widow of William "Billy" Johnson and the
only child of W.J. and Ada B. Huff. Betty is survived by her children, David
L. and Linda A. Johnson of Huntington, as well as her granddaughter, Jessica
Johnson Holbrook (Ralph), and great-granddaughters, Gracie R. and Olivia D.
Holbrook of Charleston, W.Va. Betty leaves behind beloved friends, both deaf
and hearing, as well as a host of wonderful people throughout the city of
Huntington who took watchful care of her in her "on foot travels" with
constant companion "Ruby," her red walker. Betty is a member of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the WVA School for Deaf and Blind
Alumni Association, Greater Huntington Association of Deaf, West Virginia
Association of Deaf, and National Association of the Deaf. Betty also was
active in the American Sign Language program at Mountwest Community
Technical College as advocate, supporter and 2nd Mother to both deaf and
hearing students and faculty. In lieu of flowers it was her wish that
donations or contributions be sent to the William Johnson Memorial
Scholarship Fund for Deaf Students. c/o of Mountwest Foundation, # 1
Mountwest Way, Huntington, WV 25701 in order that the world will one day
understand that DEAF CAN, YES! Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service
time on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at the Reger Funeral Home. Services will be
conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Brother Tony
Edmunds. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Huntington.
