Eugene Damron
(April 21, 1922 - November 28, 2013)



Eugene Damron, 91, of Huntington, loving husband, father and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday November 28, 2013 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Monday at the Reger Funeral Chapel by Pastor Jacque Parlato. Entombment will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. He was born April 21, 1922 in Wilsondale, WV. Eugene was a retired letter carrier for the US Postal Service. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer from the US Navy having served in WWII and the Korean War. Eugene saw action in six major battles in the South Pacific during his time in the Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, WV and the Howard P. Hall VFW Post 1064 of Huntington. Eugene was also a member of the Madison Avenue Christian Church and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Gid Damron, his mother and step father Reba Marcum Smith and Marlin Smith; his wife Velma Marie Lafon Damron; a son James R. Ritter and two sisters Bernice Stowers and Ermma “Sis” Ramey. Survivors include a son and daughter in law Steve and Joyce Damron; a daughter and son in law Becky and John Collins; a daughter-in-law Norma Jean Ritter; seven grandchildren Mark (Tracy) Damron, Lori (Jay) Patterson, Tara (Marc) Laishley, Amy Laishley, Kasey Collins, Todd (Gina) Ritter and Chad Ritter; seven great grandchildren; sister Alma Stewart and a special cousin Robert Marcum. Friends may call from 3 to 5 pm Sunday at the Reger Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the Madison Avenue Christian Church. American Legion Post 93 of Kenova will conduct military graveside rites.
