Obituary

Larry Benard Thompson
(September 17, 1937 - April 16, 2015)

Larry Benard Thompson, 77 of Huntington, WVa, went to his heavenly home Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. He was born September 17, 1937 , the only son of Felix B. and Mary P. Thompson. He is survived by his wife Sylvia Yost Thompson, his forever love, his best friend and confidant, his daughters Lorraine (Lori) Jackson and Diana Gibson, and though he was preceded in death by his beloved step-son Russell R. Yost, he remains in the hearts of Randall M. Yost, Katharine M. Peterson (Mike) and Kelli S. Brizendine (Tim). He leaves behind nine grandchildren, Gregory Thompson, Katrina Lloyd, Chase, Brandon, and Amber Brizendine, Julian Jackson, Erica Morrison, Niki Hackworth, and Stephen Peterson as well as four great grandchildren. Also surviving are his three amazing sisters, Sharon Nicholas, Marsha Stewart and Phyllis Wilcox. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with countless friends. He graduated from HEHS in 1955 and proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of engineers with a title of Architectural Technician Sponsored by the National Professional Engineers Society. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and an Admiral of the Cherry River Navy. His hobbies included refinishing old furniture and buildings, restoring, and collecting model cars. He brought his own perfectionist qualities to any project his loved ones needed help in achieving. He has helped us all at some point throughout his life and for that we are eternally grateful. He has taught each of us how to love completely, look at the world differently, think independently and live by faith and dignity. He is and will continue to be loved as his legacy lives on in hopes that we can make him proud. We will be honoring his life with visitation, Sunday, April 19 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Reger Funeral Home. Pastor Ken Toler will lead funeral services Monday April 20 at 1:00 p.m. at the Reger Funeral Chapel with graveside services following at Spring Valley Memory Gardens.
