Obituary
Ida Mae
Goodrich
(July 27, 1935 - October 25, 2018)
October 25, 2018, Ida Mae Goodrich
walked on, entering into the shining and glorious presence of Christ. She
was looking forward to this heavenly homecoming, joining her beloved
husband, Joseph (Toby) Goodrich, her baby boy, Jackie Lee Goodrich and her
Father and Mother Sampson & Frances Lester. A host of friends and relatives
that had gone on before her are welcoming her home. Ida was born July 27,
1935 in Kenova, WV in the log house on Maple Street that still stands to
this day. At the age of eighteen, Ida met her future husband that was
singing in a quartet at her church. Two weeks later, Joseph and Ida were
married. Their blessed union of forty-eight years brought forth a family of
eight children. The family continued to expand with the additions of
spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ida’s son Jackie greeted
her in heaven but she leaves behind Maria Diane (Charles) Browning of
Lavalette, WV, Joe (Jane) Goodrich of Huntington, WV, Tamy Keeney of Greer,
SC, Nancy (Larry) Dishman of Huntington, Sheri (Rick) Love of
Proctorville, OH, Jon (Melissa) Goodrich of Huntington, WV, and Todd
Goodrich of Huntington, WV. Ida’s grandchildren brought her so much
pleasure. Grandkids Aaron (Tiffany) Goodrich, Dr. Shea Goodrich, Chris
Jarrell, Ashley Leighton, Dakota Dishman, Cheyenne (Matt) Keesee, Nolan
(Kendra) Love, Mitchell Love, Zeke (Abbey) Goodrich, Mariah Goodrich,
Jaysean Goodrich, Jayvon Goodrich, Grant Goodrich and Adam Goodrich are left
with wonderful memories of their Maw Maw. Ida’s blessings continued with
precious great grandchildren. Hayden and Brooks Reed Goodrich, Cale, Hunter,
Chase, Brinlyn, Kinsley, and Theo Love, Mattisyn and Eli Keesee, and Aliyah
Wright will be loved by Maw Maw forever. Ida was the woman of Proverbs
31:10-28. Verses 27 and 28 fit her especially well, ”She looketh well to
the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her
children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praised
her. She lived to serve her family as unto the Lord. She was a gifted cook
and baker and she canned and preserved delicious and wholesome food every
summer. Her delicious and renowned crab apple jelly was made from the crab
apple tree that her father in law, Jack, planted many years ago.
Thanksgiving was Ida’s favorite holiday although her Christmas candies and
cookies were meticulously prepared and were compared to none. Sadly,
the days came that Ida’s children needed to serve her as dementia stole her
beautiful mind. The journey was long and difficult for her but she is free
from all pain now. Her family caregivers are weary and tired but will
painfully miss her and look forward to seeing her again someday. It was an
honor for Ida’s children to serve her in her time of fragileness and
illness. The family is so grateful to Hospice of Huntington for their
tender, loving care. We are sure that although Ida enjoyed flowers more than
anyone, she would be gracious for support of Hospice, that they could
continue the comfort care for those in need. A final tribute to Ida will be
held Monday, October 29, 2018 at 1:00pm at Christ Temple Church conducted by
Pastor Chuck Lawrence. Burial will follow a Woodmere Memorial Park. Friends
may call from noon until service time at the church. Reger Funeral home is
in charge of arrangements Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Aaron, Nolan,
Mitchell, Dakota, Zeke and Grant. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam, Jaysean
and Jayvon.
