Joan Esther Hudson
(April 1, 1932 - August 8, 2011)


Mrs. Joan Esther Hudson, 79, of LaGrange, KY, formerly of Barboursville, WV passed away Monday, August 8, 2011 at Sam Swope Care Center Masonic Home of Louisville, KY. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, WV by Minister Danny Evans. Entombment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. She was born April 1, 1932 in St. Albans, WV, a daughter of the late Aultia Arnett Harrah and Ola Mabel Dudding Harrah. She had been a member of Farmdale Church of Christ, Barboursville, 6th Ave. Church of Christ, Huntington and was also a former member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was a former employee of Gateway Motel Gift Shop, Barboursville, JC Penney at the Huntington Mall and Stone and Thomas Department Store, Huntington. Joan was also previously employed at Cracker Barrell in Louisville, and Lilacs and Lace of Jeffersontown, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Hudson; one son, Charles E. Hudson; three brothers, Arnett Harrah, William Harrah, and Byron Harrah, and her sister, Gloria Harrah McKinney. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary E. and Mark A. Smith of LaGrange, KY and Anna L. and Kenneth J. Moore, Jr., of Louisville, KY; five granddaughters, Katherine M. Jackson, Jennifer A. Moore, Pamela S. Moore, Meagan E. Smith and Emily K. Smith and her grandson, Matthew Hudson Smith; and one great-granddaughter, Kylee Jane Paris. Visitation will be after 11:00 am Thursday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff at Sam Swope Care Center Masonic Home of Louisville, on Walter's House for the sweet compassion they extended to our mother during her rehabilitation stay and also to the very caring therapy staff that worked so hard to try to help her get back on her feet again.
