Raymond Eugene Cartwright, 87, of Huntington, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville by Rev. David Cartwright. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Memorial Park. He was born May 7, 1925 in Huntington, WV, a son of the late Oscar Clyde and Mildred Michael Cartwright. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Leland, Oscar and Victor Cartwright; sisters Melba Jean Cartwright and Lucille Hammond. During World War II he served in the Navy's Naval Construction Battalion "SeaBees" and participated in the battle of Iwo Jima. In 1947 he became a charter member of the Marine Corps League and served as Commandant for Detachment 340 in Huntington and Department Commandant for the state of WV. In 2003 he was Marine of the year for WV Marine Corps League. Most recently served as Judge Advocate for the League. Raymond was a charter member of "Military Order of the Devil Dogs" serving as Pound Keeper for Pound " 140 " in Huntington, Pack Leader for the state of WV, PPD and "Dog" of the year. He retired from the Chessie Railway Systems Safety Dept. in 1986. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Alice Mae Ferguson Cartwright; daughter Judy Walker of Cary NC; son and daughter-in law Marshall and Aimee of Clermont FL; sister Willie Ashworth of Prescott AZ. ; brother Jim Cartwright of Johnson City TN ; five grandchildren; Alica (David) Abbe of Wake Forest NC; Jason (Michele) Cartwright of Eleanor WV; Leigh Walker of Fort Mill SC; Wyatt (April) Cartwright of Clermont FL; Christopher (Tiffany) Walker of Leland NC. Also surviving ten great-grandchildren; Lauren, Hannah, Jackson, Emma and Haley Cartwright; Tyler and Sydney Abbe; Tristan, Xavier and Knox Walker; and several loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Midland Meadows Senior Living, St. Mary's Hospital, Hospice of Huntington, Dr. Tom Dannals and Beth Dannals; and a special thank you to Raymond's dear friend Dewey J. Turley. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Huntington, P.O.
