Obituary
VENA KINCAID
(March 30, 2014)
VENA KINCAID
has joined her heavenly family, leaving precious memories and abundant life
lessons for her cherished family, friends and neighbors. Vena was the last
child born to the late Boyd and Annie Adkins at the beloved homeplace, Steer
Branch. She was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings, including
Carson, Clifford and Scott Adkins; and sisters Zina Davis, Eva Adkins, Elva
Tomlinson and Neva Brinegar. She also endured the painful loss of daughter
Lana Shepard, and grandson Keith Jacks. Vena leaves a legacy of love and
devotion to two sons and daughters-in-law, Arley H. and Rebecca Shepard, and
Larry K. and Tracy Shepard, of Huntington; and her daughter and son-in-law
Lelia and Jim Armstrong of Tinton Falls, N.J.; her beloved granddaughter
Kellee Boster; and her very special "chosen" daughter and son-in-law Judy
and Mike Dituro of Huntington. She enjoyed a vast "extended" family and
loved dearly her 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, special
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Vena was talented, hard-working,
generous and creative. She was a great cook and took pride in keeping a
welcoming and inviting home. She also enjoyed floral design. Her
shuffleboard skills were unmatched. She devoted many years to Perry Norvell
Shoe Co., and eventually gravitated to the highest calling of her life as
owner of Vena's Rest Haven, where she lovingly cared for and provided a home
for many older "friends". She loved each and every person in her care and
treated them as family members. She was fortunate to make many lasting
friendships with her patients' families and people who worked for her as
well. Our dearest Mother, Gran Gran, Aunt, Confidant and Friend is simply
irreplaceable. We are grateful for the unwavering love and kindness she
extended to everyone. She is at last resting in God's arms, free of disease
and pain. Visitation will be at Wallace Funeral Home in Barboursville
Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and the funeral will follow on Friday at
noon by Rev. Fred Ramey. There are so many ways to acknowledge and honor her
life. First and foremost, Vena would want everyone to do something positive
for someone else, to volunteer time and talent to a worthy cause, to love
family and friends without judging, to cherish loved ones and make sure they
know it, to make a meal or provide clothing for someone who is struggling.
Her very favorite charity was Huntington City Mission (624 10th Street,
Huntington, 25701), and a donation to them would be a very thoughtful way to
remember her.
