WALTER PATRICK "PAT" ELDER
(December 18, 1933 - November 1, 2014)



WALTER PATRICK "PAT" ELDER, 80, of Huntington, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014, with his daughter-in-law by his side. He cared for her deeply and thought of her as his own daughter. He served in the United States Army in the Btry D. 526 AAA Missile Bn at Fort Hancock, New Jersey, and received an honorable discharge. He was born December 18, 1933, in Huntington, the son of the late Patrick Henry Elder and Ruby Alice (Watts) Elder. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, William Woodrow Elder and Lawrence Jennings Elder. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Cathie Elder of Huntington, who took care of him; three grandchildren whom he was very proud of and loved deeply, Summar Marie (Jared) Sturgeon of Lesage, Jesse Patrick Elder and Autumn Cora-Ann Elder; one great-grandson named Gunnar Scott Sturgeon; one sister, Janice Kathleen Childers of Pennsylvania; a long time friend, Dottie Workman; and a son, Leslie Paul Elder of Colorado. He was a self-employed contractor for over 40 years before retiring in 1995. Since then, he enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his honey bees. He also leaves behind a host of family and friends that will miss him terribly. Pallbearers will be Jesse Elder, Jared Sturgeon, Donnie Wintz, Bub Gibson, Gig Watts, Billy Elder and Donald Elder. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Wallace Funeral Home and Chapel by the Rev. Ron Burnsworth. Burial will be in Herrenkohl Cemetery, Lesage, with military rites conducted. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
