JAMES EDWARD EVES
(August 12, 1922 - November 8, 2014)

JAMES EDWARD EVES died peacefully at his home on November 8, 2014 after a long illness. Born on August 12, 1922, Jim was preceded in death by his mother Janette Hunt, father James Edward, Sr., his sister Maxine, and his beloved wife of 70 years, Amazon Gibson Eves. He is survived by his daughter Beverly Leslie; five grandchildren: Brad Leslie and his wife Donna, Cam Leslie, William Leslie and his wife Terri, Laura and her husband Joe McCullough, and Kathy and her husband Jonathon Lilly; fifteen great-grandchildren: Jenifer Leslie, David Leslie and his wife Sarah, Matthew Lilly, Daniel Leslie, Zachary Lilly, Seth Leslie, John Leslie and his wife Brianna, Madeline Leslie, Julie Leslie, Cameron Lilly, Katie McCullough, Caleb Leslie, Sam McCullough, Isaac Lilly, and Jacob McCullough; and one great-great-grandchild: Charlie Leslie. Jim was a veteran of the US Army, who served during World War II. He worked for the C and O Railroad as an engineer for nearly 38 years. He was born in Huntington and it was there that he and Amazon made their home for 30 years. They moved to Teays Valley in 1971 to be near their grandchildren. During his long and active retirement, Jim and Amazon enjoyed camping at Myrtle Beach and at other locations with the Good Sam Club. They were also avid gardeners while their health allowed. The family would like to thank Dr. Jonathon P. Lilly and the staff of the Golden Living Center at Riverside for the excellent and compassionate care provided to Jim. They also wish to thank his personal caregivers Shirley Smith, Shelly Hill, Denise LaShier, Stacy Pack, Diane DeWeese, and Connie Shobe for their kindness and patience. A memorial service will be held in the mausoleum at Ridgelawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kanawha Valley Hospice. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is in charge of arrangements.
