Morrison
Command Sergeant Major (Ret) Emmett G. Morrison, 82, of Barboursville, WV, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 21, 2018. He was born May 13, 1936 in Barboursville, WV, to the late Russell and Lillian Moore Morrison. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorena Mae Angelo Morrison, his only son, Mark Shawn Morrison, and three brothers, Robert, Donald, and Gary Morrison. He was retired from the Army and Army National Guard, serving State and Country for 42 years. He served as Command Sergeant Major in various positions of the Army National Guard, in training and operations, personnel, and WV Military Academy. The last years of his career were as the State Command Sergeant Major appointed by Major General Joseph Skaff, serving with MG Skaff and MG Allen Tackett. He served as president of enlisted association for a five-year period and was founder of the WV Sergeants Major Assoc. He was a graduate of Barboursville High School and WV State University and many military schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis at Ft. Meade, MD and Ft. Rucker, AL. He was awarded ten federal awards including the Legion-of-Merit. He was also awarded the “Distinguished West Virginian” by Gov. Gaston Caperton and the “Minute Man” award by the enlisted association National Guard of U.S. CSM Morrison is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy M. and Fred Greenwood of Edgewood, KY; five grandchildren, Emily, Mary Kate and Amanda Greenwood of Edgewood, Ky; Shannon and Shawn Morrison of South Point, Ohio; one sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Thomas Ball; special friends, CSM (Ret) Bruce Coleman, CSM (Ret) Robert Carrico, CSM (Ret) Joe Sale, COL (Ret) Brarry Cox, COL (Ret) Calvin Kelly, LTC (Ret) Mike Barber, Mr. Steve Dean, MSG (Ret) J.J. Hatfield and a host of men and women called friends and many friends of the Bates Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Bates Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville, by Rev. Scott Hoppe. Burial will be in Forest Memorial Park with full Military Honors by the WV Army National Guard. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
